MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – After an opening 36 holes of play at the General Hackler Championship, the Blue Devils' men's golf team is in ninth place entering the final round on Tuesday morning. Duke sophomore

William Love led the way on Monday and are currently in a tie for 28th place on the leaderboard.
HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND 1
- As a team, Duke shot a 1-under 287 in the first round.
- Kelly Chinn recovered from an early bogey and picked up four birdies over his next 12 holes to help the sophomore move to 2-under for his round. The Great Falls, Va., native birdied his 17th hole of the day, the par-4 first, to end his opening 18 holes at 3-under, 69, and in a tie for 11th place.
- The second Blue Devil to shoot par or better in the first round was Ethan Evans, who signed for an opening round even-par, 72. The freshman birdied hole No. 4, 9 and 14 while scattering three bogeys throughout his round.
- Two Blue Devils, Ian Siebers and Luke Sample, carded a 1-over, 73, in their opening round of the day. Siebers recovered from two early bogeys and rolled in three birdies over a three-hole stretch and five birdies overall in his round. Sample started the day in red numbers, pouring in a birdie putt from the fringe on the par-5 fourth, his opening hole. Sample also rolled in a birdie putt on the par-4 second hole, which rated as the second-hardest hole on the course in the first round.
- Also for Duke, William Love signed for a first-round 3-over, 75. Jimmy Zheng, competing as an individual this week, finished his first round at 2-over, 74.
HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND 2
- As a team, Duke shot a 2-under 286 in the second round.
- William Love began his second round of the day with a bogey but responded with an eagle on his next hole. The freshman got his round to 3-under by his sixth hole of the afternoon after three consecutive birdies on holes No. 6-8. Love played the back-nine at 3-under after his second eagle of the day, this time on the par-5 15th and a birdie on No. 17 and turned in the lowest Duke round of the day with his 4-under 68, and starts the final round tied for 28th place.
- Kelly Chinn remained towards the top of the leaderboard throughout the afternoon, battling back from two early bogeys to get into red numbers with three birdies in a five-hole span. The sophomore ended his second round with a 2-over, 74, and joins Love in a tie for 28th heading into the final round.
- Ian Siebers dipped into red numbers after a birdie on his first hole and used three birdies through holes No. 11-15 to help the junior reach 2-under for his round. Siebers went on to sign for an even-par, 72, to end his first day of competition. Luke Sample also turned in an even-par second-round after closing his round with three birdies over his final nine holes.
- Also for Duke, Ethan Evans finished at 4-over, 76. Jimmy Zheng started with six consecutive pars before back-to-back birdies on holes No. 7 and 8. The junior birdied his final hole of the day to finish off a 1-under, 71.
NOTES
- As a team, Duke has shot under-par or better in 9 of its last 12 rounds.
- The Blue Devils rolled in 39 birdies through the first two rounds of the tournament.
- William Love is one of only three individuals to have recorded two eagles through the first two rounds. Love finished at 6-under on par-5's, tied for fourth-best of any individual in the tournament.
- The 3-under, 69, was Kelly Chinn's seventh round in the 60's so far this season.
- Jimmy Zheng was Duke's best scorer on par-3's, shooting 1-under on those holes on Monday.
