PRIOR TO DUKE
Signed with Duke in November 2020 as the nation's No. 23-ranked junior player.
Along with Sample, Duke's incoming freshman class were each ranked in the AJGA top 100 with Kelly Chinn No. 1 and John Peters No. 86.
The Golfweek rankings had Sample at No. 14.
A highly-accomplished tournament player, Sample was named the 2020 Metropolitan Golf Association Junior Player of the Year following a record-setting season in which the 17-year-old became the first player in history to win both the Met Junior Championship and Met Open Championship in the same season.
In becoming just the eighth amateur all-time, and the youngest player in history, to win the Met Open – a pro event, Sample carded three consecutive rounds in the 60s (69-68-68) to finish three strokes clear of the field at eight-under par. He rallied for a stretch of six birdies in seven holes to seize control of the tournament, after entering the final round two off the lead.
His 2020 schedule also included tournament wins at the AJGA KJ Choi Foundation (71-71-70) and the AJGA Junior at Penn State (66-70-63).
In 2019, he claimed tournament wins at the New York State Boys Amateur Championship (65-75), the IMG Junior Golf Tour at Charleston Springs CC (67-66) and the AJGA Junior All Star at Windsor (69-72).
Sample attended Trevor Day School in Manhattan and was a 2020 second-team AJGA Junior All-America selection.
