MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The second under-par round of the tournament by
Kelly Chinn led the way for Duke on Tuesday, as the Blue Devils finished in eighth place in the General Hackler Championship, played at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Chinn recorded his fourth top-20 finish of the season in a tie for 17th place with a 54-hole score of 2-under, 214, for the tournament.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke started on the 10th hole on Tuesday and shot a 2-over, 290, in the third round.
- After a bogey on his opening hole, Kelly Chinn responded with birdies on two of the last three holes on the back-nine to help the sophomore make the turn at even-par. Chinn rolled in two more birdies over his final nine holes to finish the day at 2-under, 70, and in a tie for 17th place overall for the tournament.Â
- William Love birdied the par-4 11th and then marked down his third eagle of the tournament on the par-5 15th before a late bogey on the back-nine pushed the freshman back to even-par for his round. A steady front-nine with just one bogey rounded out Love's even-par, 72, on Tuesday. The Atlanta, Ga., native completed the week in a tie for 20th place.
- Ethan Evans signed for a 1-over, 73, on Tuesday afternoon. The freshman started quickly with a birdie on the 10th hole and then added another birdie on the par-5 15th. He bounced back from two dropped shots early in the front-nine with a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole and finished in a tie for 51st overall in the tournament.
- Duke's team scoring was rounded out by Luke Sample, who signed for a 2-over, 74. The sophomore birdied two par-5's on the day and added a third birdie in his round on the 440-yard, par-4 second hole. The New York, N.Y., native grabbed a share of 39th place overall with a 54-hole score of 3-over, 219.
