DURHAM — Making its 25th all-time appearance and the first under head coach
Kara Lawson, the Duke women's basketball team earned the No. 3 seed in the Seattle 4 Region of the 2023 Division I NCAA Tournament.
Duke opens NCAA Tournament action vs. No. 14-seed Iona in the First Round Saturday in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils also host No. 6-seed Colorado and No. 11-seed Middle Tennessee State on Saturday. The winners of the two games will face off in the Second Round on Monday. Times and TV designations have yet to be determined.
"There's a lot of pride to be able to host first and second rounds at home," said Lawson. "That's a credit to our players and the job they've done this whole season in being consistent and winning. Only sixteen teams get the chance to start at home and we're one of them. It's a great accomplishment for us. It will be a great opportunity for our fans to show their support for this team. Now the real work begins. We have a tough Iona team coming into Cameron, and we will have to be ready to play."
Sporting a 58-24 (.707) all-time ledger in the NCAA Tournament, Duke enters with a 25-6 overall record this season – a program-best dating back to the 2016-17 campaign. The Blue Devils boasted one of the nation's best defenses throughout the season, ranking in the top 10 in both scoring defense (2nd, 50.8) and field goal percentage defense (8th, 34.8%).
