LAS VEGAS. Nev. – Duke women's basketball senior
Ashlon Jackson scored a season-high 18 points, but it was No. 3 UCLA who had the hot hand in an 89-59 victory over the Blue Devils to cap the 2025 Players Era Women's Championship event at Michelob ULTRA Arena Thursday night.
Jackson finished the night 5-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from distance.
Toby Fournier recorded her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She also had two blocks while
Delaney Thomas rounded out Duke's double-digit scorers with 10 points and eight boards. All five of UCLA's starters finished with double digits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCLA jumped out to a 7-0 lead, getting five points from Charlisse Leger-Walker in the first 2:40. Duke missed its first four shots of the game, forcing the Blue Devils into the early timeout.
- Taina Mair stole the ball, scoring a fastbreak layup to get Duke on the board. UCLA answered right back with a trifecta to spark a 14-2 run that put the Bruins up 21-4 with four minutes to play in the period.
- The Bruins finished the opening quarter shooting 60 percent from the field, including 71 percent from distance, taking a 30-7 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
- Jackson stopped Duke's 4:05 scoring drought with a three from the top of the arc, jumpstarting an 8-2 Blue Devil run. Duke forced three consecutive turnovers, and Fournier blocked a shot as the Blue Devils started to clamp down defensively.
- Duke continued to chip away at the lead with Fournier driving to the basket for two and sinking a pair of free throws to make it a 13-point contest, 34-21. The Bruins answered with a 7-1 run, extending the lead back to 18, 43-25, at halftime.
- Jackson drained her third three-pointer of the night and then scored an old fashioned three-point play to get Duke back within 15, 48-33. However, like it had all night, UCLA had an answer and pushed the lead back to 21.
- Jackson finished the third quarter with 11 points, but the Blue Devils couldn't find a second scorer as they headed into the final 10 minutes trailing, 65-42.
- UCLA's excellent shooting night continued into the fourth quarter as the Bruins shot 64 percent in the fourth quarter to post the 89-59 win.
UP NEXT
- Duke returns home to Durham for the first time since Nov. 12, hosting No. 5 LSU in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m., on ESPN. The Blue Devils follow with opening ACC play Dec. 7 at Virginia Tech before taking a break for final exams.
