LAST TIME OUT
- Duke women's basketball raced out to a 36-9 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 68-34 victory over Coppin State Thursday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
- Three Blue Devils registered double figures and all 10 players notched at least two points as Duke closed out its non-conference schedule.
- Oluchi Okananwa led all Duke scorers with 13 points – nine of those coming from the charity stripe. She added six rebounds and three steals to her stat line. Reigan Richardson and Kennedy Brown both notched 10 points in the winning effort.
- Duke held Coppin State to three points and 10-percent shooting (1-for-10) from the field in the first quarter. The point total ranks No. 2 all-time for fewest points in the opening period while the field goal percentage checks in as the fifth lowest.
- The Blue Devils limited the Eagles to just nine total first-half points – the fewest points allowed in an opening half by Duke during the Kara Era. The nine points are also tied for the fourth fewest in the first half by a Blue Devil foe.
- Duke outrebounded Coppin State, 50-26, and won the superlative battle in all five categories – points off turnovers (25-6), points in the paint (36-18), second chance (17-7), fastbreak (20-0) and bench points (42-8).
BLOCK PARTY – EVERYONE'S INVITED
- The Blue Devils' length has proved to be a factor on the defensive end this season as the squad averages 7.0 blocks per game -- No. 4 in the NCAA and second in the ACC (NCAA rankings as of Dec. 30).
- Duke has registered five or more blocks in nine games this season, including a pair of ball games with double-digit swats -- Coastal Carolina (12) and NC Central (11) -- as well as a trio of contests with eight rejections -- at Stanford, vs. South Carolina, vs. Florida Gulf Coast.
- Rookie Jadyn Donovan has denied 22 shots and leads three Duke players with double-digit blocks on the year. She is joined by the upperclassmen forward duo of Camilla Emsbo and Kennedy Brown with 16 and 12 blocks, respectively.
- The Blue Devils' blocks per game average (7.0) is the highest by a Duke squad since the 2004-05 season and would check in at No. 3 all-time in the Duke Team Single Season Records for highest blocked shot average if the 2023-24 slate ended today.
HITTIN' FROM DISTANCE
- Duke has knocked down 76 threes this season – an average of 6.3 per game. The Blue Devils are cashing in their triples at a .357 percent clip and have knocked down at least five threes in eight games, including six with seven or more.
- Five Blue Devils have cashed in double-digit trifectas -- Ashlon Jackson (19), Reigan Richardson (14), Emma Koabel (14), Oluchi Okananwa (11), Taina Mair (11).
- Earlier this season Duke set a single-game record for most threes in a game, knocking down 14 against Coastal Carolina.
- If the 2023-24 campaign ended today, Duke's 6.3 triples per game would rank second on the Duke single season charts for average three-pointers made. Duke averaged 7.25 in 2020-21, but only played four games.
