Blue Devils Finish Ninth at Keystone Classic

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Duke wrestling team finished ninth overall at the 27th annual Keystone Classic, held in The Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday.
Four Blue Devils – Logan Agin, Connor Barket, Gaetano Console and Jack Wimmer – highlighted the tournament, earning top-eight finishes in their respective weight classes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•   After dropping his first match at 125 pounds, senior Logan Agin battled back using two major decisions and a 7-2 victory to advance through the consolation bracket and finish fifth overall.
•   Sophomore captain Gaetano Console placed eighth in the 165-pound bracket, after finishing 4-3 on the day.
•   After splitting his first two matches, Console registered three straight pins to move into the seventh-place bout, but fell in a tight, 8-4, decision to Ty Finn of Virginia Tech.
•   Senior Jack Wimmer earned back-to-back wins to advance to the semifinals of the championship bracket at 174 pounds, before falling to No. 14 Nick Incontrera of Pennsylvania.
•   Wimmer then moved into the fifth-place battle against Utah Valley's Mark Takara, but dropped in a 12-0 major decision. The Roxbury, Pa., native went 2-3 during the event to claim a sixth-place finish.
•   Sophomore heavyweight Connor Barket also had a strong showing, reaching the consolation semifinals, before dropping Jacob Sartorio of Appalachian State in a major decision.
•   Barket then rebounded with a 7-1 victory over Drexel's Santino Morina to place fifth overall in the heavyweight bracket.
•   The Blue Devils collected 43 points throughout the tournament to finish ninth in the team standings.

The Blue Devils will hit the mat next against Davidson Friday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in John M. Belk Arena.
