DURHAM – Coming off their
John Rennie Nike Invitational title, the 17th-ranked Duke men's soccer team returns to action on Thursday evening when they take on Michigan at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils (2-0-0) and the Wolverines (1-1-0) will meet on the pitch for just the second time in program history following a 1-0 victory for Duke in last season's match.
First touch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. with the match streaming live on ACC Network Extra. The Blue Devils are hosting a doubleheader on Thursday evening, with the No. 2 women's soccer team taking on No. 3 UCLA at 7:30 p.m. There will be one ticket for both games, and both contests will play host to K9s in Koskinen where dogs get in for free.
LAST TIME OUT
- Duke shutout Milwaukee in their second contest of the season, winning 4-0.
- It was the Blue Devils' second consecutive clean sheet to start the 2022 campaign, following their 1-0 victory against San Diego to open the season.
- Shakur Mohammed led the offense with two goals, both from outside the 18-yard box.
- Freshman Axel Gudbjornsson tallied his first career goal for Duke in the second half.
- Four different Blue Devils picked up an assist in the win.
SERIES HISTORY
- Duke and Michigan matchup for just the second time in program history, after playing in Ann Arbor last season on Sept. 2.

- Michigan picked up their first win of the season on Sunday, knocking off Gonzaga, 1-0.
- The Wolverines dropped their season-opener against Duquesne by a score of 0-1.
- Michigan was picked to finish fourth in the B1G standings following a semifinal appearance in the conference tournament last season.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Shakur Mohammed picked up his first Team of the Week recognition on Tuesday after being selected to the Aug. 30 team by TopDrawerSoccer.
- The Blue Devils moved up in TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News' weekly polls, slotting in at 6th and 7th respectively. Duke dropped to 17th overall in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
- Mohammed set a career-high in both goals and points against Milwaukee after his two goal, four point effort against the Panthers.
- Two of Duke's three starting defenders are freshman, as both Kenan Hot and Axel Gudbjornsson have made an immediate impact in the blue and white. Gudbjornsson scored his first career goal in the second half against Milwaukee.
- Peter Stroud was picked to the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List. The Chester, N.J., native is one of 11 returning All-Americans nationwide and developed a strong reputation as a gifted two-way player.
- The strength of the Blue Devils lineup lies in the midfield, as veteran leader Stroud headlines a dynamic group. Junior Nick Pariano is back after 13 points in 2021, and picked up his first three points of the 2022 campaign with a goal and an assist on Sunday.
- Goalkeeper Eliot Hamill has started the season with two straight shutouts with six total saves. The graduate student will continue to take aim at his career-best six clean sheets in a season, a mark he set last year.
- Stroud and Mohammed have each been recognized among the best in the nation, as TopDrawerSoccer announced their Top-100 Player Rankings for the new year.
- Stroud was selected as the top player to watch in the nation, leading the exclusive list. Mohammed checked in at No. 60.
- The duo were named ACC Midfielder of the Year and ACC Freshman of the Year respectively last season and enter 2022 with high expectations.
