DURHAM – The Duke baseball program has added six transfers to the 2022-23 team, head coach
Chris Pollard announced Friday.
Jay Beshears,
Alex Gow,
Cole Hebble,
MJ Metz,
Josh Solomon and
Jason White all join the Blue Devils this fall and look to make immediate impacts on the field.
Jay Beshears | RHP/INF | Naples, Fla. | Northwestern
A two-way transfer from Northwestern, Beshears was a threat at the plate and on the mound in 2022. As a relief pitcher for the Wildcats, he appeared in seven games, collecting three saves and posted a 1-1 record. At the plate the Naples, Fla. native thrived, tallying 65 hits in his 194 plate appearances. The righty posted a .335 average at the dish and produced 30 extra base hits. He drove in 46 runs for the Wildcats and had only one error all season in the field.
Alex Gow | RHP/INF | Kentfield, Calif. | Kenyon University
After an impressive career at Kenyon University in Ohio, Gow joins the Blue Devils' squad this fall. In his four years at Kenyon, he pitched 152 innings on the mound, posting a 3.55 ERA. In his senior season, Gow tallied a 7-1 record and earned All-American status with his 1.76 ERA. At the plate Gow held a batting average of .335 for his career, appearing in 115 games. In his final season, Gow produced a .293 average, crushing five home runs and adding eight doubles to his line.
Cole Hebble | INF | Miami, Fla. | Massachusetts
An Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team member and Brooks Wallace Award Watchlist recipient, Hebble transfers in from UMass where he played last season. The Miami, Fla. native batted .354 last season for the Minutemen, leading the team in multiple categories. Hebble finished the season tied for eighth in runs scored in a single-season (52) and tied for first in doubles for a season (20).
MJ Metz | INF | San Diego, Calif. | Trinity University
The 6-foot-5 corner infielder, joins the Blue Devils' squad this fall after a four-year career at Trinity University. In his final season with the Tigers, Metz appeared in 51 games and tallied 79 hits on the season. Metz homered 12 times for the Tigers, while posting 41 hits for extra bases and driving in 58 RBI. The San Diego, Calif. native stole 23 bases in 28 attempts, and added 36 walks to his line.
Josh Solomon | OF | Mission Viejo, Calif. | Columbia
A career .271 hitter, Solomon joins the Duke baseball program after three years at Columbia. The Mission Viejo, Calif. native posted a .287 average at the plate in 2022. He gathered 18 extra base hits, including 11 round trippers. He added 12 stolen bases and walked 18 times last season.
Jason White | RHP | Concord, N.C. | Belmont Abbey
White joins the Blue Devils squad after an impressive senior season for Belmont Abbey. The Concord, N.C. native posted an 8-4 record on the mound, working 96 innings in his 19 appearances. White tallied one complete game and tallied one save in his five relief appearances. He struck out a team high 98 batters, including nine at Chowan in late April.
