"It is the honor of a lifetime to be named a captain of the 2022 Duke volleyball team alongside one of my best friends
Gracie Johnson. This is a truly special team that is comprised of women who display incredible talent and character both on and off the court. In reality, we have 18 leaders who put in the extra work to better themselves and the team as a whole. This summer has been an incredible opportunity for us to train together and we CANNOT wait to make a lot of noise in the ACC this upcoming season. Go Blue Devils!"
– Lizzie Fleming
"Lizzie is a hard-working, positive leader that gets along with all types of people and makes everyone feel good! She works hard in the classroom, on the court and in the weight room and does it all with a smile. There is never an ask too great for what Lizzie is willing to do to get better or to support her teammates. Her positivity resonates and gives confidence to those around her. She competes in practice every day and when presented with a challenge, rises to the occasion. She is a team player and relishes being part of a team." –
head coach Jolene Nagel
Johnson has been a key component to Duke's offense and defense the last three years as a six-rotation outside hitter. She has played in 80 matches for 282 sets and owns 671 kills. Duke has added a lot of new talent to an experienced core group and is entering the new season in one of the toughest conferences in the country with a great mindset. I'm excited about our potential and the competition we will test ourselves against!"

She is willing to do whatever it takes and has a great team mentality as well. She leads by example, challenges her teammates in a very supportive manner, cares deeply for her teammates and is driven in the classroom, on the court and in the weight room."
