DURHAM – With the 52nd season in program history quickly approaching, head coach
Jolene Nagel and the Duke volleyball program announce the 2022 schedule.
The 29-match regular-season slate runs from August to November and features matches against nine opponents who participated in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, including semifinalists Louisville and Pittsburgh.
"Our 2022 schedule is one of purpose in preparation for another challenging ACC season," Nagel said. "Now that teams are traveling again, we're finally returning a trip to BYU. BYU is a perennial top-25 program and we get to play them in their facility as they host freshmen orientation at our match. We will be tested in a great atmosphere against a strong opponent. We will also get to play a strong Washington State team from the Pac-12 along with Rider University. Our preseason schedule also includes hosting the next three weekends, including two Big Ten opponents. We look to learn a lot about our team during the first four weeks of competition."
The Blue Devils welcome Davidson for an exhibition match Sunday, Aug. 20 before kicking off the regular season at the BYU Invitational Aug. 26-27 in Provo, Utah. Duke will take on BYU, Rider and Washington State in the opening weekend before its first home matches at the Duke Invitational against East Carolina, ETSU and Northeastern Sept. 2-3. Duke will make the short trip to Elon for a midweek contest Sept. 6, before hosting Big Ten powerhouses Michigan and Michigan State Sept. 9-10. Nagel's squad will close out the non-conference slate with Winthrop and Harvard Sept. 15-17 in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
With the completion of non-conference action, Duke will turn its attention to the ACC, beginning with Syracuse and Boston College on the road the weekend of Sept. 23. The Blue Devils' schedule features a home-and-home series with Boston College, Miami, North Carolina and Wake Forest. Duke will see Clemson, Georgia Tech, NC State, Pittsburgh and Virginia exclusively at home and hits the road to face Florida State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
The Blue Devils concluded the 2021 season 16-13 overall and 7-11 in ACC competition. In addition to eight newcomers, Nagel returns nine letterwinners from last year's squad.
"We have eight new team members this fall and being able to see our team in competition will be important as we prepare for the ACC season," Nagel said. "The ACC schedule itself will demand a battle every night as the ACC had the highest NCAA RPI in 2021."
The full television schedule will be released at a later date by the ACC and ESPN. Every Duke home game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks – ACC Network or ACC Network Extra.
