BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Graduate student
Nick Dahl's qualification in the 1500m for the NCAA Outdoor Championships highlighted day three at the NCAA East Regional for the Duke men's track and field team.
Competing in the opening track event of the evening for the Blue Devils, Dahl punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, leaving no doubt as he clocked the fourth-fastest overall time of the field at 3:39.78 to earn an automatic qualifier.
Freshman
Beck Wittstadt gave a valiant effort in the 800m race, but saw a sensational rookie campaign come to an end. Wittstadt ran 1:49.04 against a competitive field, just narrowly missing out on qualifying for the national meet. His time was fifth in his heat and ranked 12th overall among the field.
The Duke men also saw
Beau Allen,
CJ Ambrosio,
Michael Ungvarsky and
Miles Mingo compete on Friday in the quarterfinals of their respective events.
In their lone field event of the day, Allen opened the Friday slate for the Blue Devils in the high jump, clearing his first three heights before bowing out at 2.10m (6-10.75 feet). Ungvarsky competed in the 3000m steeplechase and turned in a run of 8:55.43.
Ambrosio and Mingo each gave courageous attempts in their events, but fell short of advancing to the national meet. Mingo dashed 47.29 seconds in the 400m, while the final Duke event of the evening – the 5000m – saw Ambrosio clock 13:57.97.
