Davis, Finesilver Named Duke Student-Athletes of the Year

DURHAM – Duke Athletics has announced that Deja Davis (softball) and Josh Finesilver (wrestling) have been named the senior male and female student-athletes of the year.
The duo joins a storied past of Duke student-athletes that have been recognized by the university for pairing athletic success with excellence in the classroom.
Davis first made waves as the first All-American in program history and has continued to be a key piece of the softball program that has reached its first NCAA Super Regional in program history. Davis remains the program's all-time leader in batting average and triples and was a big factor in the Blue Devils' regional success, with a home run against Liberty and hits in all four games.
Davis has racked up several honors in her Duke career, including being named a top-25 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award in 2021, 2021 NFCA All-Region and All-ACC first team honors, a two-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree and CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honors in 2021.
Davis and the Blue Devils continue their season this weekend with the NCAA Super Regional at UCLA, beginning on Friday at 11 p.m. (ET) on ESPN2.
Finesilver polished off a sensational wrestling career, qualifying for his fourth NCAA Championship as part of a 28-8 season. The Greenwood Village, Colo., native became just the third Blue Devil in program history qualify for four separate NCAA Championships, while finishing his career with a 79-45 record across three different weight classes. In addition, Finesilver beat a career-high six ranked opponents in 2022.
Finesilver also completed another excellent academic year, being named an NWCA Scholar All-American, named to the ACC's All-Academic Team and being selected as an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship award winner.
