DURHAM – The Duke women's track & field team finished runner-up at the ACC Outdoor Championships with 100.5 team points while the men's team tallied 59 points to take sixth and matched its highest finish at the outdoor conference meet since 2015, as three days of competition wrapped up Saturday at Morris Williams Stadium.
The Blue Devils closed the three-day meet with wins in the women's 4x400m relay and women's 400m hurdles to bring their event title total to four. Duke's unit of
Carly King,
Jenna Crean,
Lauren Hoffman and
Megan McGinnis put on a record-setting performance in the final women's event of the day, blazing to a season-best 3:33.88 finish to break smash the Morris Williams Stadium record – set by Duke in 2019.
Hoffman continued her incredible season in the hurdles and added another All-ACC First Team honor to her collection as she captured her first outdoor conference title, doing so in historic fashion. The Haymarket, Va., native clocked 56 flat to claim the gold medal, upending the seven-year-old facility record set by Jernail Hayes back in 2015.
Beau Allen kicked off the Saturday slate for the Blue Devils in the men's high jump and collected the silver medal after finishing as the runner-up. Allen garnered all-conference status for the second time and earned the first All-ACC First Team honor of his career – the junior had no misses through his first five attempts and matched his personal best and No. 3 program mark with a clearance of 2.15m (7-0.50 feet) to tally his highest finish in an ACC meet.
Graduate students
Nick Dahl and
Erin Marsh also added bronze medals for the Blue Devils in the men's 1500m and 100m hurdles events. Dahl ran 3:43.07 against a highly competitive field, while Marsh tallied her second medal of the weekend behind a finish of 13.49 seconds.
Duke added All-ACC Second Team honors in five events. The Blue Devils' 4x100m relay quartet of
Halle Bieber,
Abby Geiser,
Kelcie Simmons and
Chyler Turner ran the second-fastest time in Duke history en route to earning the bronze medal. The group clocked 44.05 seconds, missing the school record by just .03 seconds.
Graduate student
Michaela Reinhart picked up her second All-ACC honor of the weekend via a fourth-place finish in the women's 5,000m, running 15:54.87 amid a loaded field.
Brianna Smith wrapped the field events for Duke and took fifth in the women's high jump. The sophomore cleared her first four heights on her first attempt before ending the event with a final clearance of 1.76m (5-9.25).
McGinnis ran her second personal best in as many days as she finished the 400m in 53.27 seconds to place fifth overall. Turner added another nod to the second team after placing sixth in a tightly contested 100m hurdle race with a 13.56 second finish. Her time was a personal-best and improved her No. 5 all-time program mark.
Rounding out the top performances of the day for Duke in school-record-breaking fashion was the men's 4x100m relay and
CJ Ambrosio in the men's 5,000m. For the second time this season, the unit of
Ezra Mellinger,
Miles Mingo,
Joseph Laster and
Donovan Spearman broke the school record, bringing it home in 40.05 seconds. Ambrosio bested his fastest time in school as he clocked a personal-best 13:42.50.
