SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 12 Duke softball (36-7, 16-3 ACC) parlayed some timely small ball and strong pitching into another ACC series win, defeating Syracuse, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon at Skytop Softball Stadium.
Peyton St. George (19-3) picked up the win over four scoreless innings pitched, striking out five batters, while
Claire Davidson earned her first save with three scoreless frames in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one.
After a scoreless first inning, the Blue Devils got some life when Davidson reached on an error to lead off the frame. From there,
Rachel Crabtree executed a sacrifice bunt and then
Francesca Frelick bunted for a single to score Davidson from second and take a 1-0 lead.
Kamryn Jackson would make the small ball pay off, launching a home run off the center field batter's eye to make it 3-0.
St. George would keep the Orange at bay for the remainder of her start, picking up two additional strikeouts and allowing just one hit over the next two innings.
The Blue Devils added more pressure in the sixth inning, when
Sarah Goddard led off the frame with a pinch hit single. Frelick would reach on another successful bunt that forced an Orange error to get Goddard to third base.
Kyla Morris drove in another run on yet another bunt to make it 4-0.
Jackson reached base for the second time on a hit-by-pitch then promptly stole second base to set up pinch hitter
Taylor Krapf. Krapf laced a pitch through the left side of the infield, scoring Jackson for a 5-0 advantage.
Leah Jarnac drove in the sixth run of the day shortly thereafter on an infield single, extending the lead further to 6-0.
Jackson punctuated another big day, throwing out a would-be runner in scoring position off a single and Davidson ended the game with a strikeout to secure the victory.
The Blue Devils will head home before playing their regular season road finale, traveling to Campbell for a game on Tuesday, May 3 at 6 p.m.

- St. George's 19th win ties Shelby Walters for the single season program record, set last season.
- With her hit-by-pitch in the sixth inning, Kristina Foreman extended her on-base streak to 15 consecutive games.
- Jackson becomes the second Blue Devil to reach double figures in stolen bases, tying Ana Gold with her 10th of the season.
- The Blue Devils stole five more bases against the Orange, finishing the weekend with 12 over three games. With two games of five stolen bases, the Blue Devils accomplished the feat twice after just having four such games in program history entering the weekend.
- Duke recorded two shutouts in the series win, accomplishing multiple shutouts against an ACC opponent in a single series for the third time in program history (at NC State, May 7-9, 2021, and vs. Boston College, April 1-3, 2022).
