RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 11 Duke earned seven wins, including a pair each by the Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight, to highlight the first day of competition at the Lake Wheeler Invitational in Raleigh, N.C.

The Blue Devils wrapped up Friday with the most victories of any team in the field of 16 entrants, leading No. 9 Penn (six) and No. 15 Syracuse (five). Duke was led off by a dominant showing from the Third Varsity Eight, which clocked a time of 7:05.405 to lead Kansas and the Orange by over 13 seconds.

Duke netted its second win of the day in the V4's opening heat, as the Blue Devils pulled away from Syracuse by 4.240 seconds. After a pair of second-place finishes in the 2V8 and V8 heats, the Duke 3V8 came through once again with a strong performance to kick off the late afternoon session, outracing Oklahoma by over 18 seconds.

That sparked a string of five consecutive wins to close the day for the Blue Devils, as the 2V4, V4, 2V8 and V8 each followed with a victory. One of the most entertaining finishes of Friday's two sessions came in the 2V8 second heat, as Duke battled back-and-forth with Miami down the stretch before edging out the Hurricanes by 0.747 seconds (6:45.785 to 6:46.532). The Blue Devil 2V8 boat has now won nine out of 11 races in the 2022 season.

Duke will compete in six races on Saturday morning, five of which feature the Blue Devils against Penn. Racing begins with the first heat of the 3V8 at 9 a.m., before the Duke 3V8 takes the water at 9:24 a.m.
