It has been an exciting spring for Duke field hockey. The Blue Devils completed a strong spring season here in Durham with five contests over the course of three weekends. A little bit farther away – 8,113 miles farther – a trio of Blue Devils competed in the FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup and FIH Pro League Hockey got underway
Blue Devils Wrap Up Junior World Cup
Leah Crouse and
Josie Varney wrapped up action with the United States U-21 Women's National Team, while former Blue Devil
Kiki Rozemeijer did so with Netherlands at the FIH Women's Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Crouse and Varney were instrumental in helping the United States advance out of pool play to the quarterfinals. The U.S. went on to finish eighth overall in the field, falling to South Africa, 3-2, in its final match.
Varney tallied one of the two goals for the United States in the match against South Africa, while Crouse was in the starting lineup. Overall, for the tournament, Crouse started in four games, while Varney came off the bench four times.
Rozemeijer and Netherlands cruised to the title, defeating Germany in the final, 3-1. Rozemeijer was in the starting lineup for the final and each of the previous five contests. Rozemeijer scored one goal in the tournament and was instrumental in the Dutch allowing just one goal.
Crouse Makes US Women's National Team Debut
Crouse, just days after competing at the Hockey Women's Junior World Cup in South Africa, made her U.S. Women's National Team debut in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the FIH Pro League. The FIH Pro League features national teams from nine different countries as they square off in games all over the world.
The Blue Devil standout earned her first women's national team cap in a 3-1 setback to Argentina April 17. She also saw action in the second game against Argentina the following day.
Wolgemuth Selected to U.S. Roster

Jillian Wolgemuth was named to the 20-athlete FIH Hockey Pro League roster that will compete in Chapel Hill, N.C., against England. Head coach Greg Drake selected 20 players for his roster as the U.S. Women's National Team prepares for its first home matches since 2020.
Wolgemuth has been a mainstay with the U.S., in the FIH Pro League contests, starting each of the past six games. She has 16 caps overall in her career.
The No. 15 USWNT is coming off a trip to Buenos Aires where they took on No. 2 Argentina. In the first contest, USA held a lead at the half, but Las Leonas capitalized on three penalty corners to overcome a strong performance by the red, white and blue. In the second game, after a scoreless first quarter, Argentina converted on three field goals in each of the remaining periods for the 3-0 victory.
The home matches will take place at Karen Shelton Stadium on the campus of the University of North Carolina. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased by

Bourne Returns to the Triangle Donning Red and White
Duke's
Darcy Bourne is set to return to North Carolina this weekend, her first time back to Triangle since she won the ACC Freshman of the Year award in 2021. Bourne will be suiting up for the England Women's National Team.
Bourne earned her first cap with England Feb. 19 in a loss to Argentina in the country's first FIH Pro League contest. Duke's leading scorer in 2021, Bourne has been excelling with the Surbiton Hockey Club in England as she took this past season off to focus on training with the U21 National Team. She also recently earned an invitation to train with the Great Britain Women's Hockey Team as the squad begins training for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Bourne will return donning the red and white for England in a pair of contests FIH Pro League games against the U.S. Women's National Team this weekend.
