RALEIGH – The Duke men's golf team steps out of tournament play on Friday to battle ACC rival NC State in the I-40 Cup Match Play event at the Carolina Country Club in Raleigh.
The match-play dual pits the Blue Devils versus the Wolfpack beginning at 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon as the teams make final preparations for next week's ACC Championship. In addition to three rounds of stroke play at the ACC Championship, the top four teams advance to match play to determine the conference champion.
Eight Blue Devils are in action Friday with solo matches versus eight from NC State. Sophomore
Ian Siebers is first off at 1:30 p.m. versus Maximilian Steinlechner, followed at 1:38 p.m. by sophomore
Jimmy Zheng against Spencer Oxendine. Freshman
Luke Sample battling Ethan Choi is the final match at 2:26 p.m.
Admission is free to Carolina Country Club, a course that opened in 1910. It underwent a redesign in 2016 by Rees Jones – the same famed golf course architect that managed the redesign at Duke University Golf Club, which was originally designed by his father, Robert Trent Jones Sr. Carolina CC is located on Glenwood Road in Raleigh.
Duke is coming off a victory at the Stitch Intercollegiate, led by individual medalist
Quinn Riley in his first career win. The Blue Devils were the lone team that finished under par at Lonnie Poole Golf Club, besting ACC foes Norte Dame and NC State among the 13 teams in the field.
Following the I-40 Cup, the ACC Championship begins April 21 at Watersound Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
