DURHAM – The No. 7 Duke women's lacrosse team (6-0) is set to open ACC play Sunday at No. 3 Syracuse (4-1, 0-0 ACC). Opening draw is set for noon at the Carrier Dome on ACCNX.

Sunday marks the ninth meeting between the two squads as Syracuse has won the last two and leads the series 6-2. Duke is coming off six commanding victories to start the 2022 season and is averaging 21.83 goals per game, which leads the nation. Head coach
Kerstin Kimel's squad is 6-0 this spring, its best start since 2015 when Duke finished the season 16-5 (5-2 ACC) and went to the NCAA semifinals.
A LOOK BACK
The seventh-ranked Duke women's lacrosse team secured its sixth victory of the season with a 19-9 win over East Carolina at Koskinen Stadium. With the dub, head coach

Duke's offense was led once again by graduate student
Catriona Barry with five points off of four goals and an assist. She has tallied at least five points in every game this season and now owns 40 points this season. Sophomore

Eva Greco each tallied three points (2 goals, 1 assist) as 13 different Blue Devils registered a point against ECU.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Sunday marks the ninth meeting between the two squads as Syracuse has won the last two and leads the series 6-2. The Orange are 4-1 this season and recently dropped a close 16-15 overtime road contest to No. 6 Northwestern on Tuesday. Sunday will be the fifth ranked opponent Syracuse has faced this season. Syracuse ended the 2021 season as the NCAA runner-up. They fell to Boston College (16-10) in the NCAA Championship game.
This season, the Orange are led by Meaghan Tyrrell with 23 points (18G, 5A), Emily Hawryschuk with 19 points (15G, 4A) and Megan Carney with 19 points (11G, 8A). Tyrrell and Hawryschuk rank sixth and seventh in the ACC. Much like Duke, Syracuse has multiple scoring threats. Syracuse has split time between Delaney Sweitzer and Kimber Hower in goal. Sweitzer owns a 12.00 GAA and a .231 save percentage between the pipes.
LAST TIME WE MET
Duke is 2-6 against Syracuse and the two teams met last season when the No. 2 Orange secured a 15-5 win in Durham. Duke was led by
Katie Cronin with two goals and an assist for three points and also received goals from
Maddie Jenner,
Ainsley Thurston and
Olivia Carner. Meaghan Tyrrell posted a six-point performance (5G, 1A) in the outing.
FAST & FURIOUS
Through six games, Duke has tallied a whopping 131 goals and 64 assists for 195 points. Their 21.83 goals per game and 32.33 points per game rank first nationally. Duke has proven to score fast and furiously this early season and received goal contributions from 21 different players. Not only are they scoring in bunches, the Blue Devils are also sharing the ball well with 64 assists on 131 goals, led by
Catriona Barry and
Eva Greco with 11 dimes apiece.
BUSY MARCH
Duke is set for a busy month with seven games in March and will face three ranked opponents. First on the docket is No. 3 Syracuse this weekend before Pittsburgh (March 10), No. 24 Penn (March 13), Louisville (March 17), Davidson (March 20), No. 16 Notre Dame (March 26) and Liberty (March 29).
BARRY & DESO ARE VIBIN'
Graduate student Barry and sophomore
Katie DeSimone have combined for an outstanding 74 points in six games. No other duo in Division I has accomplished that this season. They have also notched more points than nearly 80 Division I programs. Barry owns 30 goals and 11 assists for 41 points while DeSimone has 25 goals and eight assists for 33 points. Last season, Barry tallied 35 points to DeSimone's 37.
UP NEXT
Looking ahead, Duke returns to Koskinen Stadium for two games next week. The Blue Devils welcome Pittsburgh Thursday, March 10 before No. 24 Penn Sunday, March 13.
