What to Watch
- Sophomore Moorea Mitchell kicks off the weekend's events on Friday morning, with the hammer throw slated for 10 a.m.
- Mitchell owns the fourth-farthest toss in program history of 52.09m (170-11 feet), which she set last season at the Tobacco Road Challenge.
- Graduate students Michael Fairbanks and Erick Duffy will take part in the pole vault with the pair looking to build off the success from the indoor season.
- At the ACC Indoor Championships, Fairbanks became the first Duke men's ACC indoor pole vault champion since Mike Shankle's 1978 title, and the fourth overall, while Duffy finished as runner-up. The classmates both notched heights of 5.26m (17-3 feet), with Duffy needing two attempts to clear it.
- Additionally, Duffy and Fairbanks also boast the No. 2 all-time Duke pole vault mark of 5.32m (17-5.50 feet).
- Scott Campbell gets his sophomore campaign going with the javelin, where he currently holds the No. 4 all-time Duke mark of 68.77m (225-7 feet).
- Dana Baker will also compete in the javelin on the women's side. The junior's throw of 50.48m (165-7 feet) is slotted third in program lore.
- Junior Kinsie Huggins owns the third-best shot put mark in Duke history with her toss measuring 14.17m (46-6 feet). She opens her outdoor campaign in the event at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
- Zoe Hughes hits the track for the first time this season as the graduate student will be one of five Blue Devils competing in the long jump. Last season at the Duke Twilight meet, Hughes jumped out to 6.06m (19-10.75 feet) – a mark that is currently tied for fifth on the Duke list with classmate Erin Marsh.
- Hughes will also compete in Saturday's 100m hurdles (1:10 p.m.) where she currently owns the No. 5 program mark of 13.71 seconds.
- Freshman Mike Herzog will look to replicate the success he saw in the triple jump during the indoor season in outdoors, beginning with Saturday's event slated for 1:30 p.m. The rookie made an immediate impact during the indoor season and his leap of 15.18m (49-9.75 feet) is second all-time.
- Beau Allen gears up for the high jump, set for Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The junior is coming off an All-ACC Second Team performance at ACC Indoors where he finished sixth via a 2.11m (6-11 feet) leap.
- He also owns the No. 4 outdoor (2.10m (6-10.75 feet)) and No. 3 indoor (2.16m (7-1.00 feet)) high jump marks in program lore.
- Duke will feature four entries in the 4x100m relays – three women's and one men's.
- Junior Halle Bieber was a member of the first- (44.02 seconds), third- (44.53 seconds) and fifth-fastest (44.74 seconds) women's 4x100m quartets in Duke history, which were each set during the 2021 season.
- Classmate Carly King was also a member of the unit that ran 44.53 seconds.
- The men's unit of Donovan Spearman, Miles Mingo, Joseph Laster and Ezra Mellinger hit the track for the 12:10 p.m. dash on Saturday.
- Spearman has seen success in his first season at Duke as he shattered the indoor 60m hurdles record with a dash of 6.69 seconds, while Laster, Mingo and Mellinger were members of the 4x100m unit that broke the school record in the event after clocking 40.82 seconds at the 2021 Virginia Invitational.
- Laster recorded the fourth-fastest 100m dash (10.54w seconds) time in program lore, while Mellinger's 10.61 second sprint is tied for fifth.
- Graduate student Lauren Hoffman gets set to take part in arguably her strongest event in the 400m hurdles.
- Hoffman is the school record holder in the event with a 56.98 finish and earned All-ACC First Team status during the 2021 season. She displayed some of this strength in the final leg of the 4x400m relay during the 2022 ACC Indoor Championships at the end of February - driving to create just enough separation and lead Duke to victory and a share of the ACC title.
- She also earned second team honors in the 400m with a PR of 53.76 seconds.
- Kelcie Simmons will be one of seven Duke women running in the 100m dash (2:10 p.m.) and one of 11 in the 200m dash (3:50 p.m.) Saturday afternoon. Her 100m time of 11.69 seconds stands fourth all-time at Duke, with the 23.60 finish in the 200m at fifth.
- On the men's side of the 200m event, Mingo and Mellinger will look to improve on their No. 2 and No. 3 all-time marks of 21.10w seconds and 21.30 seconds, respectively.
