RECORD BOOK UPDATE: WOMEN EXCEL AT ACCS
A successful week at the 2022 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships produced the highest women's finish in program history, two ACC titles, four All-ACC honors, five school records and 22 top-10 times in program history.
Â
FreshmanÂ
Margo O'Meara highlighted the week by being named the ACC Championship Women's Diving MVP taking gold in both the one-meter (354.75) and platform diving (324.95) events. The St. Louis, Mo., native also placed fourth in the three-meter competition with a score of 367.10. She is the fourth Blue Devil to earn the honor, joiningÂ
Evan Moretti (2019),Â
Abby Johnston (2010, 2011) andÂ
Nick McCrory (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014).
Â
SophomoreÂ
Sarah Foley shined in the meet, reaching the finals in all three individual events that she competed in. Foley placed second in both the 200 freestyle (1:43.85) and 200 individual medley (1:54.47) to earn the first All-ACC honors of her career, just a spot behind Olympic medalist Alexandra Walsh. She also placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:06.63 finish. All three times were school records and her mark in the 200 freestyle currently ranks in the top-20 nationally.
Â
Foley was leadoff in the 800 freestyle relay on Tuesday night and set the strong tone with her program-record mark in the 200 freestyle. Foley, freshmanÂ
Yixuan Chang, sophomoreÂ
Catherine Purnell and rookieÂ
McKenna Smith touched in 7:05.32 in the event to break the record.
Â
Also on the women's side, the quartet of juniorÂ
Emma Shuppert, Foley, sophomoreÂ
