DURHAM – The Duke men's basketball trio of junior
Wendell Moore Jr., sophomore
Mark Williams and freshman
Paolo Banchero has been selected to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District III Team.
The Blue Devils now own 92 all-time USBWA All-District picks, with 75 coming under head coach
Mike Krzyzewski. Duke has had at least one All-District selection in 15 consecutive years and landed three on this year's team for the first time since 2018.
The USBWA District III includes all Division-I teams from the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.
Moore enters the NCAA Tournament ranking third in the ACC in assists (4.6), 15th in steals (1.50) and fourth in assist/turnover ratio (2.25). The second-team All-ACC pick is the nation's only power conference player shooting .500+ from the field, .400+ from three-point range, averaging 5.0+ rebounds and 4.0+ assists. He is Duke's second leading scorer at 13.5 points per game and third leading rebounder (5.4).
The ACC Defensive Player of the Year and finalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, Williams leads the conference and ranks 12th nationally in blocked shots per game (2.76). His 94 total blocks are the fifth most in the NCAA, and he has logged 27 games with multiple rejections this season – the third most nationally and tied for the most among power conference players. Williams also ranks seventh in the ACC in rebounding (7.4) and he has nine double-doubles, including four in his last nine games.
A second-team All-America pick by the NABC and a third-team selection by both the Associated Press and Sporting News, Banchero established himself as one of the nation's top freshmen this season. The Seattle, Wash., native is one of three players ranked in the ACC's top 10 in both scoring (17.0, sixth) and rebounding (7.8, fifth). Among all power conference true freshmen, he is first in field goal percentage (.474), second in scoring, second in rebounding and second in double-doubles (10).
The USBWA Men's All-District Teams are selected based on voting from its national membership of 900-plus. USBWA All-District Teams have been voted on since the 1956-57 season, its founding year.
