DURHAM – After opening the spring campaign last week in Florida, the Duke women's golf team will head to Hilton Head, S.C., this weekend to compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Feb. 28 through March 2 at the Long Cove Club.
In very exciting news, the Golf Channel will provide 21 hours of airtime for the event with live coverage taking place each day from 2:30-5:30 p.m. It will mark the first all-women's regular season collegiate golf tournament to be aired live on Golf Channel.
Along with Duke, the tournament will feature a loaded field that includes Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Furman, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, North Carolina, Northwestern, South Carolina, Texas, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
Teams will play 18 holes each day and fans can follow the action live on www.GolfStat.com.
Duke will compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate for the eighth time in school history with the Blue Devils collecting wins in 2014 and 2015. Two different Duke golfers have won an individual title at the event as Leona Maguire and Yu Liu won in 2015 and 2014, respectively.
For the second straight tournament, the Blue Devils will feature a lineup of junior
Megan Furtney, junior
Erica Shepherd, sophomore
Phoebe Brinker, sophomore
Anne Chen and freshman
Rylie Heflin. With
Gina Kim turning professional, Duke features a roster this spring without any seniors for only the second time over the last 23 years. The only other time was in the 2011-12 campaign.
Duke teed off in the Moon Golf Invitational last week in the spring opener in Melbourne, Fla. The Blue Devils had a slow start, but played the final two days at only 2-over-par. Shepherd, Brinker and Chen each placed in the top-30 individually.
The Blue Devils will open action on Monday beginning at 11:20 a.m., along with South Carolina and Auburn.
