DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's and women's golf programs were recognized last week at the Duke Children's Society Celebration, held at Penn Pavilion on campus. As Birdies for Babies celebrates its 10th season, Duke Children's honored the program for raising more than $150,000 to benefit the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.
At the celebration, both the Duke men's and women's golf programs were recognized on stage for their fundraising efforts. The Blue Devils also presented a check for $18,370.75 to the Duke Children's Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units, representing funds raised during the 2025-26 season.
Duke continues to raise funds for Birdies for Babies in 2026-27 and has raised $2,164.50 so far this fall. The program continues to need support, and fans are encouraged to pledge for the remainder of the season.
Those interested in supporting Duke's partnership with Duke Children's can pledge an amount for each birdie made during the season or make a one-time donation. Pledges start at $0.50, and higher increments are welcome. If the Blue Devils register an eagle (two birdies), albatross (three birdies) or hole-in-one (four birdies), the result will count accordingly toward the pledge total. For more information, click

The men's team returns to competition Oct. 16-18 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta, Georgia. The women's team will compete locally this week at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, hosted at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill Oct. 16-18. Free sliders will be available at lunch each day at the course, and admission is free for all fans.
The creation of the Birdies for Babies program was spearheaded by Duke graduate
Virginia Elena Carta. A native of Udine, Italy, Carta was a four-time All-ACC selection and the 2016 NCAA individual champion. The 2016 WGCA All-America selection and Honda Award winner turned in an NCAA-record 16-under-par ledger of 272 as a rookie to register her first collegiate victory. She became one of only four Blue Devils to win both an NCAA individual title and team championship.
