Pollard Elected Division I Chair of ABCA

DURHAM – Duke head coach Chris Pollard was elected the Division I Chair on the Executive Committee of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Pollard, entering his 10th season as the head coach of the Blue Devils, was elected by his peers on Jan. 6 at the NCAA Div. I Coaches Meeting at the 2022 ABCA Convention held in Chicago. He succeeds Florida Atlantic's John McCormack.

"Being nominated and elected to serve as the NCAA Division I Chair for the ABCA is a testament to the respect that coaches across the country have for Coach Pollard," ABCA Executive Director Craig Keilitz said. "His teams continue to excel on the field and in the classroom due to his tremendous leadership. I have gotten to know Chris through his active involvement within the ABCA and am excited to work closely with him in his new role to continue pushing our game forward and create meaningful change to enhance our sport for student-athletes and coaches alike."

Pollard holds a career record of 663-517-3 in 22 seasons, including a 278-199 ledger in nine seasons at Duke. While with the Blue Devils, Pollard has coached 33 Major League Baseball Draft picks, 16 All-ACC selections, four Freshmen All-Americans and three All-Americans. In addition, he has led the program to two Super Regionals (2018, 2019) and an ACC Baseball Tournament Championship title (2021), each the first in program history.

Pollard became the first Duke coach to reach 100 career ACC wins, becoming one of six active head coaches to achieve that mark. In 2016, he led the Blue Devils to the NCAA Columbia Regional, snapping a 55-year postseason drought.

In addition to his role on the executive committee, Pollard continues to serve on the ABCA NCAA Division I Legislative Council and the ABCA Lefty Gomez Award Committee.

The ABCA Executive Committee is comprised of the ABCA President, Vice Presidents, and committee chairs representing NCAA Div. I, II & III, NAIA, Junior College, High School, Youth, Travel Baseball as well as the Diversity Committee. All committee members are elected by the ABCA membership. Each chair serves a three-year term and is eligible to be re-elected for one more three-year term.

The Executive Committee is responsible for bringing forth recommendations of business items and policies, specifically for rules and legislation changes within each division and new initiatives for expanding minority opportunities in amateur baseball, to the ABCA's Board of Directors.
