SANTIAGO, CHILE – Former Duke University field hockey standout
Jillian Wolgemuth helped the United States Field Hockey Women's National Team finish atop Pool B at the 2022 Pan American Cup with a 3-0 record in the opening round of action.
The United States defeated Trinidad & Tobago 13-0 in its opening contest and picked up a thrilling 3-1 victory over Canada in the toughest matchup of pool play. The U.S. wrapped up action Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 20-0 win against Peru.
Ranked 15th in the FIH world rankings, the U.S. upset No. 14 Canada. Peru is 34th and T&T 39th. The three goals the U.S. scored against Canada were the lone ones it allowed in pool play.
Wolgemuth started the first two games for the United States, helping to post a shutout versus T&T and letting in just one goal against the North American rivals.
Taking the spot in Pool B, the United States earned a spot into the semifinals, Thursday, Jan. 27 against the winner between Chile and Trinidad & Tobago. Chile, ranked 19th in the world, went 1-1 in Pool A action, losing to Argentina and beating Uruguay.
First hit for the United States in the semifinals is set for 4:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Jan. 29 at 4:30 p.m.
The Pan American Cup is an international indoor field hockey competition for men and women organized by the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF). This event is a direct qualifier for the FIH Hockey World Cup with the top three teams earning a spot in the tournament.
