Hamilton Named ACC Co-Freshman of the Week

DURHAM – Following Duke women's cross country's opening season first place finish at the Elon Opener, freshman Katie Hamilton has been named ACC Co-Freshman of the Week, as the league announced on Tuesday.

In her collegiate debut, Hamilton was at the top of the pack for nearly the entire race, ultimately finishing 10th with a time of 14:09.6. Hamilton finished third among all true freshmen in the field and fifth amongst her Blue Devil teammates.

With the honor, Hamilton is the first Blue Devil woman to win ACC Freshman of the Week honors since Michaela Reinhart on September 6, 2017, and the first Duke cross country runner to win since Zach Kinne on October 23, 2019.

The Westfield, N.J., native played a critical role in the Blue Devils win, crossing the finish line as the final scorer in the Blue Devils victory. A versatile runner, Hamilton comes to Duke after a decorated tenure at Westfield High School, where she was the New Jersey Meet of Champions champion in the 1600m in the indoor and outdoor season and set school records in the 400m, 800m, 1000m, 1600m, Mile, 4x400m and DMR during the indoor season and 800m, 1600m, 4x400m, 4x800m, 4x1600m and DMR during the outdoor season

Hamilton and the Blue Devils will return to action on Friday, Sept. 17 at the Adidas XC Challenge in Cary, N.C., hosted by NC State. The Blue Devils will get their first crack at ACC opponents during the upcoming meet.
