GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the third time this season, Duke men's soccer goalkeeper
Eliot Hamill has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, as the league announced on Tuesday.
Â
With this third award, it marks the second time that an ACC player has won three ACC Defensive Player of the Week nods since the ACC Player of the Week Award split into offensive and defensive in 2015 (joining Virginia's Jeff Caldwell).
Â
Hamill is coming off another shutout victory, this time over Syracuse in a 1-0 decision on Sept. 25. The Scarsdale, N.Y., native made five saves, preserving a shutout before an 82nd minute goal by sophomore
Thorleifur Ulfarsson.
Â
Hamill has now recorded five shutouts in six games, making 27 saves with a 0.964 save percentage and goals against average of 0.162. His save percentage is tied with San Diego State's Jacob Castro for first in the nation, while his GAA and shutouts rank third and fourth, respectively. The senior captain is also in the midst of a 270:00-minute shutout streak.
Â
Behind Hamill and sparkling defense from
Amir Daley,
Antino Lopez,
Lewis McGarvey,
Ruben Mesalles and
Ian Murphy, the Blue Devils have won all its first six games via shutouts for the first time since 2004. In addition, the Blue Devils have risen to a season high ranking of No. 4 in the nation, according the
United Soccer Coaches poll.
Â
In other weekly honors, Ulfarsson was named honorable mention for the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week following his goal at Syracuse.
Â
The Blue Devils will start a three-game homestand tonight, beginning with a match against Howard. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
