DURHAM – Following a shutout of ACC rival North Carolina, Duke senior goalkeeper
Eliot Hamill has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week and the College Soccer News National Player of the Week. Hamill also headlined the College Soccer News Team of the Week.
Â
Hamill won his first College Soccer News National Player of the Week award and his second ACC weekly honor. He previously garnered the ACC Defensive Player of the Week recognition Sept. 7. The senior has now matched Clemson goalkeeper George Marks as each have two nods apiece. With his second ACC honor of the season, Hamill has given Duke two ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same season for the first time since 2015 (
Markus Fjørtoft and
Jared Rist).
Â
The awards come on the heels of a 3-0 victory by the No. 12 Blue Devils over No. 16 North Carolina. Hamill played a critical role in the win, making six saves and recording his fourth shutout in five starts this season. His efforts allowed the Blue Devils to beat the Tar Heels by multiple goals for the first time since a 4-0 victory on Nov. 12, 1999 and win by the largest margin of victory in Chapel Hill since a 6-2 win on Oct. 5, 1997.
Â
The Scarsdale, N.Y., native ranks second in the nation in save percentage (0.957), fourth in goals against average (0.193) and tied for fourth in shutouts (4). Hamill has made 22 saves this season and remains perfect in regulation with 540:00 scoreless minutes, with his only goal allowed coming in double overtime against Seattle.
Â
In other weekly honors, sophomore defender
Amir Daley was named honorable mention for the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
