TOKYO – Duke track & field volunteer assistant coach and alumna
Maddy Price helped send Canada's 4x400m relay team into an Olympic final, as the group advanced to the final round on Thursday.
Price and the 4x400m relay team clocked in at a season-best time of 3:24.05, to take fifth in the second of two heats. Needing to finish in the top three or with the two-fastest remaining times, Canada beat out Germany for the final spot.
Canada's time checks in as the seventh fastest of eight, after also beating first heat automatic qualifier Belgium. Price played a critical role in the finish, running her third leg in 50.80 seconds for the second fastest on the team. Her leg of the race was the third fastest in the heat, behind only Kendall Ellis and Janieve Russell of top-two finishers from the United States and Jamaica, respectively.
Price is hoping to continue Blue Devil women's track & field success in the Olympic Games, with
Shannon Rowbury most recently finishing fourth in the 1500m in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Price will be back in action in one of the final events of the Olympic Games on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 8:30 a.m. ET. Canada is set to run in lane three, next to the Netherlands and Poland.
