DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke volleyball team defeated North Carolina A&T 3-0 (25-17, 25-26, 25-15) in exhibition action Thursday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
"We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to compete this evening and to learn more about ourselves as a team", head coach Jolene Nagel said. "We're grateful for NC A&T to visit us so that we all could have this opportunity to compete and play in front of fans. Our team did a good job of serving tough and we also took advantage of opportunities that were presented. We were able to try some things, have almost everyone be on the court and see players in multiple positions."
The Blue Devils were led by senior Ade Owokoniran and junior Gracie Johnson with nine and eight kills, respectively. They each only registered two errors each to lead Duke to an impressive .329 hitting percentage. Setter Alex Springate dished 29 assists to find nine hitters as libero Mackenzie Cole picked up 16 digs on the defensive front. At the net, senior Lily Cooper tallied two blocks to pace the middle blockers.
Thursday's contest was also the debut for four Blue Devils as graduate student Taylor Cole and freshmen Rylie Kadel, Rachel Richardson and Nikki Underwood saw action.
Duke's first regular season contest will be on the road at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, beginning with the Chanticleers Friday, Aug. 27.
