DURHAM – The Duke baseball program earned the 2020-21 American Baseball Coaches Association's Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization announced.
Â
The ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award is earned by programs that post a grade-point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2020-21 academic year.
Â
The Blue Devils earned the honor for the sixth consecutive season, each season since the awards inception in May of 2016, with a 3.474 team GPA in the spring of 2021. Duke was one of 94 Division I baseball programs from across the country and was joined by Georgia Tech, Louisville, Notre Dame and Wake Forest in representing the ACC. Â
Â
In addition to the team honor, Duke saw seven Blue Devils named to the All-ACC Academic Team –
Chris Crabtree,
Matt Dockman,
Luke Fox,
Joey Loperfido,
Peter Matt,
Ethan Murray and
RJ Schreck. Dockman, Loperfido and Schreck were also tabbed to the CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team.
Â
On the field, the Blue Devils finished 33-22 while making program history. Duke won its first ACC Baseball Championship tournament title while Loperfido was named the ACC Baseball Championship MVP. The Blue Devils reached the NCAA postseason for the third consecutive season, the first time in program lore.
