DURHAM – SophomoreÂ
Graham Pauley and freshmanÂ
Adam Boucher have been named All-Stars in their respective summer ball leagues.
Â
Pauley has shined at third base for the Alpharetta Aviators in the Sunbelt Baseball League in Georgia, about 15 minutes from his hometown. The Aviators lead the league with a 13-5 record and have strung together an eight-game win streak heading into the All-Star break.
Â
"To be named an All-Star is a huge honor," Pauley said. "It's always a lot of fun when you are playing well, but it even more fun when the people around you are playing well because right now our team is leading the league. This is just the beginning of something that I think is going to be great for me going into next year. I feel like I have found myself and my game here."
Â
In 15 games, Pauley has recorded a .380 batting average and .620 slugging percentage, both ranking among the top three in the league, with 19 hits, three doubles and three home runs. In addition, he holds a league-leading 14 RBIs and has been walked twice to just four strikeouts. He has also stolen six bases.
Â
For Pauley, it is also nice to be home and see his dreams become reality.
Â
"When I was little, I did watch some of the aviator games because the field is about 15 minutes from my house," Pauley said. "Looking up to college baseball players when you are little is something that a lot of young baseball players do. When I see little kids at our games it takes me back to childhood memories and when I was in their position, so I try to talk to them and give back to the kids in this area like I was one day."
Â
Most recently, Pauley represented the Sunbelt in the 2021 Sunbelt All-Star Game at Golden Park Wednesday night. The Milton, Ga., native was a bright spot of the game, recording two hits but the Sunbelt team fell 6-3 to the Florida League.
Â
Boucher is playing for the Martha's Vineyard Sharks in the New England League in Massachusetts. The Sharks are currently 15-11 overall and are just a game and a half behind the league leading Valley Blue Sox in the Southern Division. He will compete in the 2021 NECBL All-Star Game on Sunday.
Â
"Martha's Vineyard has been a great experience so far," Boucher said. "I have fun going to the field everyday and working with my teammates and coaches. I'm very excited for the opportunity to gain exposure and play alongside great players in the All-Star game."
Â
In seven games, Boucher has carried a 1.50 ERA allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and 10 walks while striking out 22 in 12 innings of work. Boucher's 16.50 strikeouts per nine innings rank second on the team.
Â
He earned his first win of the season on June 26, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out six while allowing two hits and two walks.
