DURHAM, N.C. – Duke student-athletes
Meible Chi and
Madison Dunk were named recipients of the Heidrick Family Leadership Post Graduate Scholarships, the Blue Devil Athletic Department announced this week.
The Heidrick Family Leadership Post Graduate Scholarships were established through a generous gift by Bob Heidrick and his family. The recipients are chosen not only for what they have contributed to the leadership community within Duke Athletics but also by who they are as people, how they have grown in the area of leadership and how they have used their leadership development to enhance the community during their undergraduate career at Duke University.
The selection is viewed as an investment in the individual rather than on the athletic accomplishment of the individual. It is the investment in the excellence of his/her character, in the qualities of leadership possessed by the individual, commitment to others and the potential for service through outstanding leadership in the future.
Two Scholarships will be awarded in the amount $10,000 each to two graduating Duke student-athletes. The funds are to be applied toward the continuation of their academic endeavors at the graduate or professional school level. Funds must be used within three years of each recipient's graduation from Duke University.
Chi, a three-time All-ACC selection and 2021 ITA All-America, completed a stellar career this season with the women's tennis program. She was a three-time NCAA singles qualifier and a 2021 NCAA doubles qualifier with teammate
Margaryta Bilokin. A product of Weston, Fla., Chi helped lead the Blue Devils into the NCAA quarterfinals this year and was a part of two NCAA semifinal appearances over her career. She set a Duke career record with 42 ACC singles wins and finished her career with 136 all-time wins to rank fourth on the Blue Devil charts. Chi received the 2020 ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award and is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team selection.
Dunk has been an active member of the Duke women's lacrosse team on and off the field the last four years and saw action in 23 contests as an attacker. She concluded her undergraduate career with eight points to her name (five goals, three assists) and was part of the 2021 squad that saw the program's 20th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Durham, N.C., native also excelled in the classroom as a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and graduated in May with a psychology major and minors in chemistry and Asian middle eastern studies.
