DURHAM – Duke men's soccer midfielder
Peter Stroud continues to earn recognition as one of the top rookies from the 2020-21 season as College Soccer News named Stroud to its All-Freshman First Team. Stroud was also recently tabbed one of the nation's top newcomers by Top Drawer Soccer.
Stroud was one of three ACC players to earn a spot on the first team and one of four from the league to earn a spot on one of the outlet's three teams. It is the latest honor for the first-year midfielder who earned All-ACC Third Team recognition. He was one of three freshmen voted to an All-ACC squad while being named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
The engine to Duke's offense, Stroud started all 17 games for the Blue Devils and dished out three assists on the year. The native of Chester, N.J., ranked second on the team in minutes played at 1,591.
He was most recently tabbed as the No. 5 freshman by Top Drawer Soccer as the ACC dominated three of the top five spots. A tireless worker out of the midfield, Stroud posted his first career point, providing the assist on
Nick Pariano's winning goal in the final seconds of the second overtime against NC State September 26. Stroud added assists in wins over Virginia Tech and Virginia during the spring and went the distance in 13 of his 17 appearances overall as Duke's workhorse in the center of the field.
Stroud was not the only Duke rookie to garner recognition this season as Top Drawer Soccer recently listed its top-100 freshmen with three Blue Devils in the top 100.
Antino Lopez came in at No. 28 as a defender, while Pariano was tabbed 37th. Lopez, voted the team's most valuable defender this past season, started every game on defense and played 1,544 minutes. Duke's youngest player, Pariano, proved he has a bright future as a playmaker in the middle of the field. The Philadelphia native ranked second on the team in points with two goals and a team-high four assists for eight points. Making 16 appearances, Pariano started seven contests and played a total of 904 minutes.
