DURHAM, N.C. – Two Duke outfielders, senior
Joey Loperfido and junior
RJ Schreck, earned All-ACC honors for the 2021 season, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Â
Loperfido was named All-ACC Second Team while Schreck was an All-ACC Third Team nod. The All-ACC honors were the first of their careers.
Â
A senior out of Haddonfield, N.J., Loperfido has been an anchor for Duke throughout his four years and has elevated his play to another level this season. He's batting a team-leading .360 with a .469 on-base percentage, both ranking in the top five in the conference. Currently, his .469 on-base percentage is the fourth highest in a single season in program history. The center fielder has been aggressive offensively, sitting in the top 10 of the conference in runs (48), doubles (14) and stolen bases (11). Loperfido was named ACC Player of the Week on May 10 after a stellar week in the batter's box, going 8-for-11 with four runs, two doubles and a home run at No. 15 Louisville.
Â
Schreck earned All-ACC honors as he has showcased his power at the plate all season. Prior to the 2021 campaign, the Los Angeles, Calif., native held just 15 career hits before bursting into the Blue Devils' lineup as a power hitter. Schreck boasts a slash line of .350/.453/.644, all career highs. His .644 slugging leads the team and ranks in the top 10 in a single season all-time in Duke history. Schreck boasts 15 home runs and 46 RBIs this year, both ranking in the top 10 in the conference in their respective categories. In addition, his 15 home runs are tied for sixth all-time in a single season at Duke.
Â
The selection of Loperfido and Schreck make 105 All-ACC Blue Devils all-time. Under head coach
Chris Pollard, Duke has seen 14 selections in nine seasons.
Â
Duke takes on the ACC Baseball Championships as the No. 9 seed. The Blue Devils face No. 5 Florida State Wednesday at 11 a.m. and fourth-seeded Miami Thursday at 11 a.m. in pool play.
