TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 16 Duke softball team was shut out by No. 9 Florida State, 5-0, to open the four-game ACC series on a rainy Friday night at the Seminole Softball Complex.

The Blue Devils (27-7, 15-7 ACC) were held to one hit in the contest while the Seminoles (25-6, 13-2) tallied three runs in the bottom of the third inning and tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth.

Florida State scored on an RBI single and hit a two-run home run in the next at bat to plate three runs in the third frame.

Deja Davis garnered Duke's lone hit of the evening with a leadoff triple in the top of the fourth. The triple was her fifth of the season. Looking to add a Blue Devil run on the board, Davis attempted to steal home but was caught on the play for the final out.

Battling through the rain, senior
Peyton St. George tossed 5.1 frames in which she let up three hits, five earned runs and six walks. The Mechanicsville, Va., native recorded three strikeouts in her fourth loss of the season (11-4).

Claire Davidson threw 0.2 innings in the sixth, allowing a single and two-run double while fanning one batter.

Duke and Florida State return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m. and game two will follow on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. The game times were adjusted due to expected inclement weather.
