McKendree Densel (bow) opened the weekend by winning their first heat with a 2,000-meter time of 6:36.350 – more than seven seconds ahead of the second-place Wisconsin Lightweights.
After Clemson earned victories in the A Final of the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight races on Saturday morning, Duke's V8 needed to place first to win the Blue Devils the regatta. Duke shot out to an early lead in the first 1,000 meters and never looked back, clocking a finishing time of 6:42.649. That mark was Duke's second-fastest in a final race this season, and earned the V8 its fourth victory in 2021.
The win gave the Blue Devils a total of 83 team points, narrowly edging out Clemson's 82 to claim the Pocock Cup.
This marks the second ACC Crew of the Week recognition for the V8 boat this season and third honor for the Blue Devils, as the 2V8 crew garnered the award on March 10.
The Blue Devils now shift their focus to the ACC Championship, which is set for May 14-15 in Clemson, S.C., at Lake Hartwell.
