STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Finn Hossfeld,
Stephen Kim,
Jason Post and
Brycen Rushing highlighted the second day of action at the 2021 NCAA Fencing Championship as the quartet captured All-America accolades in their respective weapons in State College, Pa.
Through the second day of the national competition, Duke sits in fifth in the team standings with 69 points.
Hossfeld notches All-America status for the first time in his young career and becomes just the seventh Duke male foilist to receive the honor. Competing in his first NCAA Championship alongside Hossfeld, rookie Kim also is the seventh Duke male saberist to be named an All-American while Rushing captures the title for the second consecutive year in foil. Post collects the accolade for the first time as a sophomore.
Hossfeld finished his sophomore campaign tied for third overall with 19 victories out of 22 total bouts over the two days of competition. Winning nearly 87 percent of his bouts, Hossfeld was one of four to advance to the semifinal round where he was the No. 2 seed in men's foil. The Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., native fell to No. 3 seeded Andrew Machovec (15-10) in the semifinals to notch third place.
Kim entered the second day of competition in ninth place and jumped four spots on the leaderboard to finish fifth overall. The New York, N.Y., native registered 15 victories as he won 65 percent of his bouts.
With their performances today, Hossfeld and Kim add All-America recognition to their individual and team 2021 ACC Champion titles.
