STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Through three rounds of pool play during the third day of competition at the 2021 NCAA Fencing Championship, the Duke fencing team is in fourth place in the team standings with 110 points.
Notre Dame holds the top spot with 169 points followed by Penn State (158), NJ Institute of Technology (111) Duke (110) and St. John's (97) rounding out the top five.
The Blue Devil women represented Duke today on the fencing strips with
Christina Ferrari (foil),
Alex Gorman (saber),
Sarah Lurye (epee),
Lulu Tang (foil) and
Anneke Zegers (saber).
Rookie Ferrari headlines Saturday's competition and sits in fourth place with 10 victories while Gorman is right behind in saber in sixth place with 11 wins.
Competing in foil beside Ferrari is Tang who is in 11th as Lurye (14th) and Zegers (15th) round out Duke's performances today.
The Blue Devil women will compete in their final eight bouts in pool play in their respective weapons Sunday and will attempt to move up the leaderboard with their focus on a top-four spot. The four fencers in each weapon with the best marks will advance to the semifinals of a single-elimination bracket of 15-touch bouts.
The semifinal and championship bouts will be aired on ESPN3 and WatchESPN beginning at 1:30 p.m.
