DURHAM, N.C. – Junior
Matthew Whelan and freshman
Seamus Harding Jr. are prepped and ready to represent Duke at the 2021 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, March 24-28, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
The meet will run Wednesday-Saturday with preliminaries in the morning, followed by finals in the evening for swimming. Diving will take place in the afternoon between the morning and evening swimming sessions.
REPRESENTING DUKE
Whelan will compete in three events at the meet as he earned qualification in the 200 butterfly via his school-record time of 1:42.41 at the UNC Last Chance Meet. The Richmond, Va., native will also compete in two other events, earning a spot in the competition with 'B' Standard times throughout the season. He will swim in the 50 freestyle (19.96, a career best and eighth all-time at Duke) and 100 butterfly (47.07, a career best and fifth in program history).
Joining Whelan in competition is Harding Jr., who will represent Duke in platform diving. After battling injuries to begin his collegiate career, Harding Jr. competed in just two regular season meets before fixing his gaze on the postseason. At the conference meet, Harding Jr. placed sixth in platform diving. Two weeks later, the Hillsborough, N.J., native placed eighth in the same event at the NCAA Zone B Championships to earn NCAA qualification.
