DURHAM, N.C. – The 12th-ranked Duke field hockey team looks to bounce back with a competitive matchup versus No. 5 Liberty on Sunday, March 21, at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
Sunday's contest between the Blue Devils (3-7, 1-0 ACC) and Flames (4-9, 1-1 ACC) will be available to watch on ACC Network Extra.

HISTORY WITH THE FLAMES
Duke has won all six meetings against Liberty (6-0), dating back to 2014. Four of the six contests have gone into overtime as the Blue Devils outlasted the Flames. The last meeting was Nov. 3, 2019, when Duke edged Liberty in Lynchburg, 3-2, in overtime.
Leah Crouse registered the game-winning goal in the 64th minute of play.
SCOUTING LIBERTY
Although Liberty didn't see any game action in the fall, the Flames opened their spring season with an 8-1 record (7-1 Big East), earning the No. 5 spot in the first national poll of the 2021 campaign. Liberty's one loss came against UConn, 3-2, but it bounced back the following day with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Huskies. Daniella Rhodes leads Liberty's offense with 31 points (13g, 5a) while Jill Bolton is closely behind with 26 points (9g, 8a). Irigoyen Iritxity has played 390 minutes in the cage, tallying 37 saves and a 6-1 record with a 0.92 goals against average.
RECAPPING FRIDAY vs. WAKE FOREST
The Blue Devils opened their spring slate at home with a 4-1 setback to Wake Forest Friday. The Demon Deacons scored two early first-quarter goals and upped their lead to 3-0 at the 40-minute mark. Duke got on the board with a goal from senior
Lily Posternak in the 54th minute, scoring off a rebounded shot from graduate student
Eva Nunnink. Wake Forest tallied the final score of the game in the 57th minute (4-1).
Freshman
Morgan Fletcher and sophomore
Charlotte Johnson made their career and season debuts, respectively, as the pair entered in the remaining minutes of the contest. Johnson garnered her first career saves, finishing the game with two in her 3:15 minutes of action.
DUKE AMONG THE ACC
The newcomers on Duke's 2020-21 squad are making an impact. In only her first season at Duke, freshman
Darcy Bourne leads the Blue Devils and ranks in the top five among the ACC in numerous stat categories. She's third in shots (34) and shots per game (3.09) while fourth in points (11) and goals (5). Nunnink ranks seventh in the league in shots (24) and 10th in shots per game (2.18), while rookie
Piper Hampsch is second in shutouts (3) and third in saves (43).
