HISTORY WITH ELON
Wednesday's meeting will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs. Last season, the Blue Devils and Phoenix met on March 11, 2020, for what would be the final game of the 2020 season.
ST. GEORGE EARNS THIRD WEEKLY HONOR
Senior Peyton St. George led the Blue Devils' pitching staff through 16 innings in the circle, including two complete games, to tally three wins, 21 strikeouts and a 1.31 earned run average. With her three victories, St. George improved to 9-0 on the season and is one shy of tying her season-high 10 wins in 2020 and 21 strikeouts away from reaching her program-record 96 punchouts in 2018.
The award is her third ACC Pitcher of the Week honor this season – Co-Pitcher Feb. 16 and Pitcher March 2.
4-0 ACC WEEKEND RECAP
For the third straight week, the Blue Devils went undefeated to pick up their second league sweep of the season and second all-time against Virginia. Duke was led by junior Kristina Foreman at the plate with a 7-for-12 performance with four extra-base hits and seven RBIs. Junior Caroline Jacobsen and senior Jameson Kavel both registered five hits and six RBIs in the series.
Foreman, Jacobsen, Kavel and junior Deja Davis all hit home runs on Sunday, breaking the program single-game home run record of three.
Duke utilized four pitchers as St. George led the way with three wins and junior Shelby Walters garnered a victory with a complete seven innings in game two. Senior Brianna Butler and freshman Claire Davidson also made appearances in the third game of the weekend.
NEARING 100 WNS
With a 19-1 overall record this season, Duke holds a 96-63 all-time program record. Head coach Marissa Young and the Blue Devils are just four victories shy of hitting the 100-win mark. The most wins Duke has recorded in a single season was 29 in 2018.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
Duke moved to No. 14 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll and ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll while remaining No. 17 in D1Softball. For the first time in two weeks, Duke improved in the Softball America Poll, climbing one spot to No. 19.
