Duke Squads Shine to Close Out Opening Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Duke fencing team closed its time at the Ohio State Invitational Sunday as both the men's and women's squads went undefeated Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. This weekend marks the one and only regular-season meet for the Blue Devils this season.

The Duke women picked up wins against NJIT (18-9), Temple (15-12) and Air Force (16-11) while the men also defeated NJIT (15-12) and Air Force (18-9).

The women's squad had three fencers post flawless records during the second day of competition as foilist Lulu Tang (8-0), foilist Christina Ferrari (6-0) and saberist Gabrielle Zegers (6-0) produced high-quality wins on the strips. Junior saberist Alex Gorman also went 8-1 on the day.

On the men's side, rookie saberist Stephen Kim went 5-1 to lead the men's contingent against its two competitors. Junior epeeist Kevin Chao also produced four wins.

Duke will have some competition time off to prepare for the ACC Fencing Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.
