DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke cross country team resumes its regular season Friday morning when it competes at the FSU XC Winter Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.
After running in four meets, including the ACC Championships, during the fall of 2020, the Blue Devils look to carry over successful results to Apalachee Regional Park before turning their attention to the NCAA Cross Country Championships on March 15 in Stillwater, Okla.
Seven Duke men and seven women are set to run on Friday morning, beginning with the men's 8K at 9 a.m. The lineup features seniors
CJ Ambrosio,
Paul Dellinger,
Alex Miley and
Josh Romine, as well as junior
Chris Theodore, sophomore
Zach Kinne and freshman
Jared Kreis.
Ambrosio established himself among the ACC's best in the fall of his senior year. The Avon, Ohio native took sixth and second place at the Virginia Tech Invitational and Panorama Farms Invitational, respectively, before earning his first career All-ACC honor by finishing 16th overall at the conference championships. Ambrosio will aim to best his 8K personal record of 23:35.0 that he set at the ACC meet on Oct. 30.
Dellinger also clocked a PR time in the 8K during the fall, as his mark of 24:18.1 at the Panorama Farms Invitational was good for a sixth-place result. Kinne posted a ninth-place finish at both the Virginia Tech Invitational and Panorama Farms Invitational, and his time of 23:41.0 at the ACC meet went in as a PR.
Lining up for the women's 6K will be seniors
Amanda Beach and
Michaela Reinhart, juniors
Sara Platek and
Leigha Torino, sophomores
Caroline Howley and
Samantha Schadler, and freshmen
Victoria Patterson and
Charlotte Tomkinson.
Reinhart continued her stellar Duke career in the fall, finishing in the top-six in all three races she appeared in. A native of Lexington, Ky., Reinhart recorded a PR time of 20:19.3 to take fourth overall at the ACC Championships – the best result by a Blue Devil runner at the conference meet since 2013.
Emerging as a top runner in the ACC during her sophomore campaign was Schadler, who posted a top-10 finish in each of the fall's three races. She placed ninth at the season-opening Virginia Tech Invitational before taking third at the Panorama Farms Invitational and garnering All-ACC status with a 10th-place showing at the conference championships.
Beach had the team's only first-place result of the fall season when she clocked a 5K time of 16:53.0 to lead the field at the Panorama Farms Invitational.
In adherence with the mandatory participation requirements, each team can bring one spectator per registered student-athlete. Everyone at Apalachee Regional Park will be health screened at the entrance and will be required to wear a face covering while at the facility.
Race results will be provided upon the conclusion of the meet.
