DAVIDSON, N.C. – The No. 15/11 Duke women's lacrosse team opened the 2021 campaign with a 16-11 victory over Davidson Friday evening in Davidson, N.C., at Richardson Stadium.
With the victory, the Blue Devils are 1-0 this season and continue to hold a flawless series record (15-0) against the Wildcats.
Duke was led by
Catherine Cordrey and
Gabby Rosenzweig with four points each as Cordrey tied her career best with four goals. Seven Blue Devils ended the first game of the year with a goal in addition to Cordrey and Rosenzweig:

The Blue Devils started their first contest of the 2021 season strong and ended the first period with a 10-5 advantage. Five different Blue Devils tallied two goals each as Rosenzweig got going early in her first game donning the Duke blue. Rosenzweig led with four points by the way of two goals and two assists.
Duke led 8-3 before Davidson netted back-to-back goals to cut into the deficit before Landry, assisted by Cronin, and Cordrey found the back of the net 13 seconds apart to end the period.
The Wildcats notched the first score of the second before Carner registered her first marker of the season. Davidson scored two more times to cut into Duke's lead (13-10) with a free position shot by Sam Rippley and an unassisted goal by Gianna New.
Duke answered with a 4-0 run as Carner, Cordrey and Cronin all found their rhythm down the stretch. Cordrey tallied her team-leading fourth goal, which also ties her career high, to extend the Blue Devils' lead (15-10) with 6:46 remaining. Carner's third goal of the night was unassisted as a career high to give Duke a 16-10 upper hand with 3:29 left.
The Wildcats totaled their last goal with 1:47 remaining.
Callie Humphrey collected three ground balls to move her to 23rd on Duke's all-time charts with 112 and tied for 11th in caused turnovers with two (71). Humphrey and
Cubby Biscardi paced Duke defensively with two caused turnovers apiece.
Duke outshot Davidson 36-21 and outdid the Wilcats at the draw (20-9), led by Jenner with 11. In addition, Duke was nearly flawless on clears, going 15-of-17.
Davidson was led by Grace Fahey, New and Rippley with two goals each.
Duke will open its 2021 home slate Thursday, Feb. 18 with William & Mary on ACCN.
