The Opening Draw
- Duke is 2-0 with wins over No. 7/5 Denver and Robert Morris. The Blue Devils stayed put at No. 1 and will be bolstered by the return of senior captain Joe Robertson. This will be Duke's third game in eight days and the third of five in the month of February.
- Balanced scoring was a storyline for the Blue Devils last weekend as 17 different players registered at least one point, including three from the defensive side of the field.
- Tyler Carpenter was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week following his performances last weekend. In his debut at close defense, the sophomore finished with a goal, eight ground balls and five caused turnovers.
- Mercer is 1-1 and under the direction of first year head coach Chad Surman. The Bears went 6-1 last season with the loss coming to No. 8 North Carolina, 14-6. In the six wins, Mercer outscored its competition by an average of 10.17 goals per game. Surman has the Bears traveling to North Carolina to play both the Blue Devils and Tar Heels this season.

Duke Off to a 2-0 Start
- The top-ranked Blue Devils picked up a pair of victories, including a top-10 win, over the weekend. Duke, playing for the first time in nearly a year, rallied to beat No. 7/5 Denver Friday afternoon and overcame a slow start Sunday to best Robert Morris, 16-12.
- The Blue Devils trailed 5-1 in both games before the defense locked down to help Duke start to chip away at the deficits. After two games, Duke has been outscored 10-3 in the first quarter, but has an 18-9 edge in the second half.
- Against Denver, Duke held the Pioneers scoreless for the final 17:14 en route to the 12-10 triumph. The Blue Devils allowed Denver just two goals in the second half. In the Sunday outing versus Robert Morris, Duke held the Colonials without a goal for 31:18 to go on an 8-0 run for an 8-5 lead early in the third quarter.

Special Teams Success
- The Blue Devils committed 15 penalties for 12 minutes last weekend, giving up a total of 12 extra man opportunities to their opponents. Duke allowed three EMO goals overall, but held both Denver and Robert Morris without a goal while playing two men down. In addition, the Blue Devils held the Colonials without a goal while goaltender Mike Adler served his two one-minute infractions.
- On the other end of the field, Duke already has four extra man goals, matching its total in eight games last season. The Blue Devils are 4-of-10 on EMO with all four coming from different players.

- Koskinen Stadium has treated the Blue Devils well over the years, being the home to countless memorable moments.
- Since 2007, Danowski teams are 118-23 at Koskinen for an 84 percent success rate.
Scouting Mercer
- Mercer comes to Durham with a 1-1 record, holding a win over Lenoir-Rhyne and a narrow loss to Bellarmine. The Bears are averaging 12 goals per game and have allowed just 13 total.
- Collin Stewart leads the offense with five goals and eight points overall, while Will McCarthy has five points (4-1). Attackman Sean Goldsmith was a Preseason All-SoCon Team pick after leading the nation in goals per game (4.86) last season. He has yet to see action in 2021.
- Defensively, the Bears are only allowing 24 shots per game and are a perfect 7-for-7 on man down. Garrett LeClaire has six caused turnovers and seven ground balls to lead the defensive effort. In goal, Colin Kelley has played all but four minutes and sports a 6.76 goals against average and a .458 save percentage. He's made 11 saves in the two games.
