Wil Hoyle went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles to lead Team Hoyle to capture the Fall World Series title with a 6-2 win over Team Crabtree on Tuesday evening at Jack Coombs Field.Â

Team Crabtree took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, but Team Hoyle utilized a five-run fourth inning to win 6-2.

Hoyle's multi-hit performance led the team to out-hit Team Crabtree 9-4.

Josh Allen earned the win on the bump for Team Hoyle, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out three in 2.2 innings of work.

Alex Mooney responded for Team Crabtree, hitting a two-run homer in the third inning to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Five hits scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to separate the two sides. Team Hoyle opened the inning by loading the bases with one out. Sophomore
Alex Stone recorded a two-RBI single through the left side to give his team the lead. Hoyle doubled to left center to plate another before graduate student
Chris Davis tripled to center field to score two more.Â

Jonathan Santucci was stellar out of the bullpen for the second consecutive game. The Leominster, Mass., native closed for Team Hoyle, allowing just one hit while striking out five in two innings of work.

Fran Oschell III also made a strong appearance. He fanned three while allowing one hit in 2.1 innings pitched.

With the conclusion of the Fall World Series, Duke now shifts its gaze to the 2022 schedule, with opening day set for February 18 against Virginia Military Institute.
