DURHAM – The Duke rowing team wraps up its fall slate on Sunday when it competes at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va.
Four Blue Devil boats are set to compete in the Championship 8+ at 12 p.m. ET, before five Duke lineups take part in the Championship 4+ at 1:30 p.m. Also at 1:30 p.m. is the Novice 8+ event, which will feature two Duke crews to cap off the day's racing.
Duke is one of seven teams competing on the Rivanna Reservoir alongside Virginia (host), Clemson, Louisville, North Carolina, SMU and Navy.
The Blue Devils have made the trip to Charlottesville for the Rivanna Romp each year that the regatta has been held since 2014. In November 2019 – Duke's last appearance – the Blue Devils posted five top-five finishes, highlighted by the Varsity 8+ taking second overall with a time of 13:28.5. That crew included
Lauren Sizemore,
Sydney Johnson,
Morgan Linsley and
Megan Lee, who will all be competing in Sunday's Championship 8+ race.
Duke is coming off a highly impressive showing at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn., from Nov. 6-7. The Blue Devils earned first place in seven races over the two days of competition, including multiple events in which they swept the top three results. Duke's fastest time on the weekend came in the Women's Championship 8+, where the team's A boat crossed the finish line at 14:03.065. That top crew will be nearly identical on Sunday, with senior
Grace Butero set to enter the lineup.
Sunday will be the Blue Devils' last competition for over three months. Following the Rivanna Romp, Duke is next in action on Saturday, Feb. 26, when it hosts Virginia for a scrimmage at Lake Michie in Bahama, N.C.
Results for Sunday's races will be available on row2k.com at the conclusion of the regatta.
