DURHAM – Nearly 50 Major League Baseball scouts arrived to evaluate the Duke baseball team at Jack Coombs Field Thursday afternoon as part of the team's annual scout day.  Â
Â
The afternoon began with team batting practice followed by a round of infield/outfield, before the team took part in a nine-inning scrimmage.
Â
Duke has produced 83 players selected in the MLB Draft, including five this past season. The Milwaukee Brewers selected shortstop
Ethan Murray in the fifth round, followed by the Houston Astros' selection of outfielder
Joey Loperfido in the seventh round. Outfielder
Peter Matt was taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round, while right-handed pitcher
Jack Carey (Pittsburgh Pirates) and catcher
Michael Rothenberg (Detroit Lions) were picked in the 11th and 12th rounds, respectively.
Â
The Blue Devils have had 53 players drafted over the past 20 years, including 30 during head coachÂ
Chris Pollard's tenure.
In addition, 21 former Blue Devils are currently on professional rosters at the end of the minor league seasons. The bunch of professionals is highlighted by seven-year MLB veteran, New York Mets' pitcher
Marcus Stroman. The full list of professional Blue Devils can be found below.
